Another wee update i’m currently sitting typing this after along day on the surf/lifesaving course in sunny/rainy Cornwall day 4 only another 5 to go…

The last month or so has seen another very successfully run Portrush surf Open contest held at East Strand Portrush on the weekend of March 17/18th…conditions varied from a big and messy swell on the saturday morning to a clean and fun decreasing swell on the sunday for the finals. The longboard title stayed in the town with myself finishing 1st ahead of Andrew Kilfeather, Emmett O,doherty and Patrik Cassidy.

Plans at the mo are trying to establish the Long Johns’s Surf Academy which is slowly coming together I have received lots of support in doing so and want to thank all those who are behind me. I have learned lots this weekend in Cornwall and am looking forward to passing my knowledge onto others and teaching them what i love to do most.

Support Niall Tohill O’Neil

For me being able to surf and partake in whatever sport you may be involved in without having any health problems is a blessing which is why when asked to support Niall’s cause back in December i was fully behind him and his recovery.

At 24 and being told you have got a slow growth Brain tumor is not what any guy should have to deal with so the family and friends are currently raising funds in aid of his recovery you can find this by typing “family and friends of Niall Tohill ONeil” on his face book support page

He currently has been supported by numerous local business such as the Ice House restaurant , Portrush surf school, Dixons of Coleraine ,the Scullery Portrush along with local surfer Almennie.com

The last fundraiser saw 60 people join together for a walk in support of Niall down a cold and sunny Portstewart strand back on the 18th of December .

As a group 3000 quid was raised and with further support more can be gained. Keep eyes peeled on Facebook for future fund raising events.

EUROSURF 2011 BUNDORAN COMPLETE

Just returned after a couple of good weeks banter down at the Euro’s in Bundoran, it was a great event enjoyed by all the European Nations and big thanks goes out to all the organisers and sponsors who made the event possible.

Team Ireland had been training prior to the event getting used the conditions which Tullan and The peak had to offer.

My final standings was 13th in the longboard category i didn’t need much in last heat to advance further but the right wave never came my way, thats contests for ya, Ye win some ya lose some, looking towards the next event now.

Ireland as a nation finished 6th overall 3 places higher than the previous Europeans.

Big shout out to our women bodyboarder Ashleigh smith who took Silver unlucky not to win by a mere 0.07, she did fab you’ll have it the next time Ash. \

The team wouldn’t have survived without the luscious food served by Mello Cafe throughout the week, much appreciated, def anyone heading to Bundoran make a stop in @ Mello, good pre/after surf munching!!!

3 large/Black Longjohn tee’s still available they where 20 pound but il take 15 if anyone still wants to be proud owner of one, just drop me a line.

Back Up North and been having some fun sessions, all be it a tad windy @ times so lets hope weather remains unsettled bringing in some more solid swells. And id only expect surfers to agree with me on that one.

Eurosurf Fundraiser Night

On Saturday 13th August from 8pm The Atlantic Bar Portrush and Antidote Sound System are holding a Funk Night Fundraiser special which is being held in aid of myself and Easkey Britton representing the Irish Surf Team at the European Surfing Championships hosted in Bundoran, Co. Donegal between Sept 23rd and Oct 2nd.

Any donations on the night would be greatly appreciated in order to fund this trip to the championships and those special limited edition Long John T-shirts will also be available to purchase on the night to support this.

Plenty of drinks promos and give-aways on the night as well.

Relentless-Inferno Long Johns one of five a day

After a morning of randomness walking to my very busy local shop with my trucker cap on to cover the mass amount of hair i am sporting @ the mo, i returned to the house to look in the mirror and see i had something poking out of the the cap, and to my own amusement i found it be a used sock from the previous day, def a new look for the future i reckon, however i do dread to step into shop next time and be reminded of this….a day in the life of McCurry nuff said!!!

Any how after that i jumped in the water and i gotta say I’m loving the new RELENTLESS ENERGY orange mix “INFERNO”, refreshing fruity taste followed with awhile hit of energy behind it, def one for those involved in Board Sports, had one and i couldn’t decide between paddling to Scotland or France.. ;-p sail her on as one says !!!

Its now July, and the the flat spell for surf on the north coast continues so nothing else for it but a lot o SUP’ing (Stand Up Paddle boarding) around the coasts nooks and grannies will be the height of my entertainment in the meantime.

Finally got rid of the bumps and bruises from surfing the flowrider in Dublin a few weeks ago big thanks to 53 degree’s north, oneil and oakley for hosting the event

IRISH SURF TEAM EURO SURF BUNDORAN CO.DONEGAL 2011/ September 23rd-Oct 2nd

Its probably my most anticipated event of the year to date having the Europeans on one of Europe’s Premier reef breaks in a Country which has been at the center point of the surf media in the last number of years.

The Irish team have a big point to proof and i am quietly confident on home soil with a solid team of surfers that we will take it to the rest of European surfing shams and put on a display which represents where the Irish surf scene has come to til now.

Carbon Rail Viper R&D

Whoever said you can only wreck yourself in big surf??? Somehow on the tiniest of waves resulted in me last week doing ligament damge to my left paw on a 1footer…she’s on the mend and looking forward soon to testing the new Westbay Carbon Rail Viper light as a feather and hopefully she will glide as good as the rest of them, heard good stories to date on this material so here’s hopeing for a few good sessions on it.
